(KANSAS CITY, MO) - WOOD Magazine has teamed up with the Unmet Needs Program for a special woodworking project for the publication’s readers. The April/May 2006 issue of WOOD features a special plan for a picture frame that readers can build and then have sent to a military family to proudly display a photo of a loved one serving in the armed forces.
After completing the frame, woodworkers can visit the WOOD Magazine Web site and download a frame insert and a permanent label that reads in part, “Please accept this small token of my appreciation for your family’s commitment in providing military service to our country.”
Completed frames will be distributed by the Unmet Needs Program via the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Foundation. Qualified recipients will be identified and the picture frames will be sent to local VFW chapters for personal delivery. For more information about the project, individuals can go online and visit www.woodmagazine.com/unmetneeds.
WOOD Magazine reaches more than half a million readers, from the novice to the fine craftsman, with each issue. The publication provides innovative project plans, expert skill-building techniques, and straightforward product reviews to help woodworkers achieve their desired results.
The non-profit VFW Foundation and Vermont American Power Tool Accessories created the Unmet Needs Program in 2004 to assist military families with urgent financial needs, including medical expenses, home repairs, car repairs, infant needs, rent/mortgage and more.
The Unmet Needs Program is supported entirely by corporate and individual donations. Because a portion of Vermont American’s financial contribution offsets the program’s initial operating expenses, 100 percent of individual donations go directly to military families.
Individuals can participate in the following ways:
- Purchasing Vermont American products, as a portion of each product purchased goes to support the program
- Visit www.unmetneeds.com and donate online
- Mail donations to the Unmet Needs Program, VFW Foundation, 406 West 34th Street, Room 514, Kansas City, MO, 64111
- Donate time and skills via www.unmetneeds.com.
