Wounded Soldier and Family Move to New Home With Help From Unmet Needs

February 25, 2005

Kansas City, MO

When Sgt. Lonnie Maynard was wounded in Iraq, he came home to his wife Kim and baby, but no job. The work he had done had been filled because of his deployment.  Complicating things was an expensive surgery that needed to be performed.  Between the medical bills and ordinary living expenses, the Maynard family found themselves facing a crisis.

They found out about the Unmet Needs Program and applied for assistance.  Before long, Sgt. Maynard had the funds to move his family to a new city where a new house and good job was waiting.

In his words, “The Unmet Needs Program was a really good thing at the right time.  We could move in and I could hit the ground running.  As a result, my family situation – with income and finding a house and everything – has been met.”

Sgt. Maynard’s story in his own words – see video.
